"I have fabulous memories of our great trip. Many shared experiences, some harried...trying to cross the street, some breathtaking ...temples, mountains and Halong Bay, some emotional ...Chi Chu Tunnels, the war museum and of course making a difference in two Cambodian families lives! There were many fun times cooking, shopping, eating, laughing and all shared with 13 other women, mostly unbeknownst to me previously but who all seemed to mesh beautifully to create a trip of a lifetime. Thank you to each of you for being part of this extraordinary trip. I have been spouting off my mouth about Woman Traveller, so here's hoping many more great women join in your jaunts." Muriel

Full Itinerary

Vietnam has become the destination to visit among world travellers. With its political capitals of Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City (formerly Saigon) discover a Vietnam rich in culture, historical legacy, awe-inspiring landscapes and French colonial past. On this tour we visit many of Vietnam's World Heritage Sites including the natural wonder of Halong Bay, the complex of Monuments of Hué and Hoi An's Ancient Town. We also cruise the mighty Mekong River Delta south of Saigon, and visit its countryside little changed by the centuries and discover the charms of this friendly country and it's people.

You can't travel to Vietnam without visiting neighbouring Cambodia and its extensive temple ruins at Angkor, without a doubt one of the world’s greatest architectural achievements. Despite having the eighth wonder of the world in its backyard, Cambodia's greatest treasure is its people. Thanks to an unbreakable spirit and infectious optimism; no visitor comes away from Cambodia without a measure of admiration and affection for the inhabitants of this enigmatic kingdom.

DEPART Home City

We begin our tour in Hanoi, Vietnam.

Those of you in Eastern Canada can meet up in Toronto and fly non-stop to Hong Kong with Cathay Pacific, where we'll make our connection to Hanoi. Ladies in Western Canada can fly from Vancouver, through Hong Kong and on to Hanoi.

NOTE: As a licensed travel agency, we are happy to arrange flights from anywhere in the world to meet up with this tour.

November 21: Welcome to HANOI
The city of Hanoi without question is one of SE Asia's most fascinating cities and no other can compare in terms of the concentration of quality architecture, built during the Chinese and French colonial era.

We will provide meeting assistance and transfer to our hotel in the heart of Hanoi where you will check in and have the rest of the afternoon at your leisure to settle in and familiarize yourself with the surroundings.

3-star central accommodation including breakfast

November 22: HANOI orientation
Today we enjoy a privately guided city tour of Vietnam's artistic and intellectual capital. We will visit Hanoi's main attractions including Ho Chi Minh's Mausoleum, the House on Stilts, the One Pillar Pagoda and The Temple of Literature. We also enjoy a walk around Hoan Kiem Lake and through the bustling streets of the Old Quarter, with its hundreds of specialty shops selling silk clothing, lacquer-ware, embroidered linens and so much more. We will even catch a performance at the famed Thang Long Water Puppet Theater.

This evening we enjoy our Tour's Welcome Dinner at a very special Hanoi restaurant called KOTO which stands for ‘know one, teach one’. It has been around since 2000 offering some of the best cuisine in the city. KOTO got its start when an Australian-Vietnamese tour guide opened a small sandwich shop to train and give jobs to the street kids he had befriended. Word quickly spread, and the sandwich shop became swamped with both patrons and potential trainees. This overwhelming response prompted the opening of the first KOTO restaurant in 2000.

4-star central accommodation including breakfast and welcome dinner

November 23: HALONG BAY

We transfer to Halong Bay to begin a 3-day luxury cruise in one of the most beautiful places on Earth. This is a 580 square mile natural cove containing some 2000 limestone islands, all occupied only by trees, ferns, birds and monkeys. The fascinating shape of the peaks have inspired Vietnamese artists for centuries.

We board our deluxe 'junk', a traditional sailing vessel and enjoy a welcome drink followed by a delicious Vietnamese lunch as we begin sailing the dramatic seascape and spectacular natural wonder that is 'Halong Bay'.

In the afternoon we explore a local fishing village, where you're free to join a fishing tour with local villagers. Later we'll enjoy a sumptuous seafood dinner and a stunning Asian sunset while our vessel cruises to its overnight anchorage.

4-star stateroom accommodation including all meals

November 24: HALONG BAY
Start your day with Tai Chi on the sundeck before enjoying an early breakfast in the vessel's dining room.

Then it's off to Lan Ha Bay for guided kayaking and swimming at Three Peach Beach, a pristine natural beach lapped by the turquoise waters.

We'll enjoy a fresh seafood lunch as we sail to Ho Ba Ham Islet, the most remote point in Lan Ha Bay and bordering the Gulf of Tonkin. Upon arrival we visit Lan Ha Bay's quaint fishing village and lagoon. There is also the possibility of kayaking through an amazing tunnel under a karst mountain (time and tides permitting). We return to our vessel and cruise through the bay to its overnight anchorage.

Later you are invited to enjoy 'Happy Hour' and a Vietnamese cooking demonstration on the Sun Deck before dinner.

4-star stateroom accommodation including all meals

November 25: HUE
Enjoy a relaxed morning on the sundeck while complimentary tea and coffee are served.

Our vessel cruises to Soi Sim Island to relax on the beach and climb to the top of the hill to get a panoramic view of Halong Bay. Afterwards our vessel cruises leisurely back to Halong Bay harbour, where we'll disembark and transfer to the Hanoi airport for our flight to Hué.

Upon arrival at the Hué airport, we'll transfer to our small charming hotel beautifully set in the heart of Hué. Hué by the way is pronounced "Hway" and not as one of the main properties of a colour.

4-star stateroom accommodation including brunch

November 26: HUE
Today we enjoy a private tour of the city starting with the elaborate mausoleums of past emperor's. Hué was not only the political but also the cultural and religious centre of the country until a Communist government was established in Hanoi in 1945.

We'll explore Hué's Imperial Citadel, situated on the northern bank of the Perfume River, which was modeled after Beijing's very own Forbidden City, where only the emperors, concubines, and those close enough to them were granted access. The royal complex of Hué has been officially recognized as a World Heritage Site in 1993. We will also visit the 7-story Thein Mu Pagoda before enjoying a boat ride on the famed Perfume River.

The rest of the day is at leisure to explore the many local restaurants and shops around our hotel, selling traditional gifts and products.

3-star central accommodation including breakfast

November 27: HOI AN

We begin our land transfer to Hoi An. We travel through coastal rice paddies and the fishing village of Lang Co before heading into the mountains and crossing the stunning Hai Van Pass.

Upon our arrival in Hoi An, we'll check-in to our hotel before walking a mere 10 minutes to the ancient town's historic old quarter. There we'll enjoy a traditional lunch at a favourite local restaurant.

The afternoon and evening is at leisure to explore Hoi An. This ancient town is renowned for its custom tailoring shops for those ladies interested in having a piece of clothing or shoes custom made.

3-star central accommodation including breakfast

November 28: HOI AN

We begin our day with a relaxed privately guided morning walking tour of Hoi An. During the tour we'll visit former merchant houses and the famed 400 year old Japanese covered bridge. Hoi An is an exceptionally well-preserved example of a SE Asian trading port dating from the 15th century. It was designated a world heritage site in 1999.

The rest of the day is at leisure to enjoy Hoi An and to find that perfect souvenir amongst exquisite silk embroideries and of course thousands of iconic Hoi An silk lanterns.

3-star central accommodation including breakfast

November 29: HOI AN
Our day starts with an early breakfast before departing for a prominent local female chef's cooking school. Once there we will enjoy a boat ride to Hoi An’s colourful and bustling central market, where we'll learn about the uses of different fresh noodles, how to recognize and buy fresh fish, herbs and their uses in Vietnam, fresh and dried spices - their uses in our recipes and medicinal purposes, rice and grains, see and taste exotic fruits. Afterwards we will tour the cooking school, watching live cooking demonstrations with actual involvement and many food tastings.

Then our cooking lesson begins and runs for about 2 hours - our cooking teachers first demonstrating each dish before we prepare the same dishes ourselves. At the close of the class, not only do we feel well versed in the basics of Vietnamese cuisine but we also enjoy the fruits of our labour as our lunch.

The rest of the day is yours to explore, strolling through the old town and its quaint shops, cafes and restaurants.

November 30: SEIM REAP (ANGKOR WAT)
The morning is at leisure and is a great time to pick up any custom clothing you had made for yourself.

December 1- ANGKOR
We begin our full day tour of Angkor by entering the walled and royal city through the South Gate of Angkor Thom, a 20 meter-high gate crowned by 4 stone faces and bordered by a double row of 54 stone figures carrying a huge Naga serpent. We'll make our way to the famous Bayon, the 12th Century Angkor Thom Buddhist Temple with 54 enigmatic four-faced towers. We then visit the impressive remains of the Khmer Kings palace "The Elephant and Leper King Terraces" before we take a break for lunch.

In the afternoon we set out to explore some of the other spectacular sights of Angkor, including Ta Keo, Ta Prohm and Preah Khan. The temples of Angkor, were built from 802 - 1220AD, when the Khmer civilization was at its height, and represents one of the most astonishing and enduring architectural achievements in the world. The structures one sees at Angkor today - more than 100 temples in all, are the surviving remains of a grand social and administrative metropolis whose other buildings - palaces, public buildings, and houses - were all built of wood and are long since decayed and gone.

In the evening we'll step back in time at a locally renowned Apsara Theatre, where dancers, singers and musicians will bring ancient Khmer culture to life while we enjoy the very best in Cambodian cuisine. Upon returning to our hotel, the rest of the evening is at leisure.

FYI, for those ladies interested in a grabbing a nightcap, there's the famous 'Red Piano' made famous by Angelina Jolie of Tomb Raider and Brad Pitt fame. This atmospheric bar was her second home while filming at the various temples of Angkor.

December 2 - SIEM REAP
This morning is at leisure to unwind, swim or enjoy an optional privately guided morning walking tour of the Old Market Area.

In the afternoon we will tour the majestic 12th century Angkor Wat Temple, the single largest religious monument in the world. Angkor Wat is one of the most important archaeological sites in all of South-East Asia and a historical capital of the Khmer Empire, which flourished from the 9th to the 13th centuries. It took approximately 37 years to build and with its lotus-shaped towers, became the most elaborate temple in the entire empire.

Later we'll enjoy a beautiful sunset (weather permitting) overlooking Angkor Wat before returning to our hotel. The evening is at leisure.

For those interested in doing some exploring aka shopping, the nearby Night Market has over 200 stalls selling handmade traditional Cambodian products such as clothing, silk, jewelry, crafts, wood and stone carvings.

4-star central accommodation including breakfast

December 3 -  HO CHI MINH CITY (SAIGON)
For those interested in seeing the sunrise at Angkor Wat, you're welcome to join our local guide on an optional early-morning tour. Then after breakfast we'll transfer to the airport for our afternoon flight to Ho Chi Minh City, formally Saigon.

In 1975 after the 'Fall of Saigon', the city was renamed in honour of Ho Chi Minh who was the Vietnamese Communist revolutionary who led the independence moment against the French and American forces beginning in 1941. Ho Chi Ming City was highly influenced by its French colonial past, and is now the main commercial centre in the southern part of Vietnam.

Upon our arrival at the airport we will transfer to our historic hotel situated along side the famed Saigon River and within walking distance of the city's top attractions including the beautiful Opera House, Reunification Palace and Notre Dame Cathedral. The hotel is Vietnam's first hotel to receive 5-star recognition and has several restaurants, lounges and a swimming pool among other facilities on the premises.

After checking into our rooms, we'll have the balance of the day to explore the sights and sounds of Ho Chi Minh City. December 5 - MEKONG DELTA
We depart early this morning on a day long tour of the Mekong Delta. Vietnam is the second largest exporter of rice in the world, with the Mekong Delta accounting for over half of the country’s yearly rice production.

Life in the Mekong Delta revolves around the water, with inhabitants toiling on the life-sustaining river for their livelihoods. The area is densely populated and intensively farmed, with rice paddies, fish farms and local orchards dominating the numerous river tributaries and canals. The Mekong Delta area is famous for its floating markets, where hundreds of local traders converge in their boats to buy and sell mostly fruits, coconuts, vegetables and fish.

We will visit Cai Be city and cruise on the Mekong river to see the Cai Be floating market. We also set foot on a nearby island and visit a local handmade coconut candy and rice paper workshop. On our return to Ho Chi Minh City via the local countryside, we'll stop for a traditional lunch at a local restaurant.

Upon our return to our hotel the evening is ours to enjoy at leisure

December 6 - Depart for HOME or extend to HONG KONG

We make our way to the Ho Chi Minh City International Airport for our journey home, filled with memories of Southeast Asia.

For those extending their Asian adventure we will fly to Hong Kong, an economic and entertainment hub and considered one of the greatest cities in the world. It is truly a happening place where "East meets West", reflecting the culture's mix of the territory's Chinese roots with influences from its time as a British colony.

After arriving at the Hong Kong airport we'll enjoy a private group transfer to our beautiful boutique hotel which will become our home for the next 3 nights. Our hotel is strategically situated in the heart of vibrant Tsim Sha Tsui (Kowloon), just a few minutes walk from Kowloon Park, the Avenue of Stars (a promenade modelled on the Hollywood Walk of Fame located along the Victoria Harbour waterfront), the Harbour City shopping hub, the iconic "Star Ferry" (which ferries passengers across Victoria Harbour to Hong Kong Island) and an endless array of places to shop and eat.

After check-in to our hotel we have the rest of the day to relax, unwind and explore the area around our hotel.

3-star central accommodation including breakfast

December 6 - December 9: HONG KONG
Our hotel is located close to an impressive transportation network that allows easy access to the city's MTR (subway), which will allow us easy access to the top sights and attractions of Hong Kong including: The Peak (an out-of-this-world view of the city and harbour), the Ladies' Market (one of the most popular shopping street markets in Hong Kong, is a must visit destination for fashion lovers with an eye for a bargain) and Causeway Bay (a maze of streets, where you'll find more shops and people than anywhere else in the city including Times Square - a shopping mall boasting 16 floors and 230 shops).

Hong Kong is also only a one-hour hydrofoil ride across the Pearl River estuary from Macau, which until 1999 was an overseas territory of Portugal. As the first and last European colony in Asia, Macau has more visible colonial history than even Hong Kong. Walking through the old city you could convince yourself you were in Europe - if the streets were devoid of people and Chinese-language signage, that is. Although best known for gambling, Macau is extremely rich in attractions and oozing with atmosphere, it is a fascinating place to just walk around in, as the place is packed with churches, temples, fortresses and other old buildings bearing an interesting mix of Portuguese and Chinese characteristics. Besides buildings, there are also hundreds of narrow alleyways forming a maze in the old part of Macau where the people of Macau carry out businesses and work. A large section of Macau Peninsula has been designated a UNESCO World Heritage site and 25 buildings and sites within the area have been deemed to have cultural and historic significance.

What are the accommodations like?

We stay in comfortable local, boutique style hotels. Accommodations are based on twin-share occupancy, (with private facilities) but single supplement is available if desired. Our Asian tours all feature deluxe hotels. Our accommodations are centrally located in the places we visit offering the convenience of personal exploration during free time.

How far in advance do I need to reserve my trip?

It is never too early to reserve your space on your trip of choice. Some of our trips book up several months or even a year in advance.  Please call us or e-mail to reserve your place as we would not want you to be disappointed.

What will the food be like?

We feature both simple, nutritious local foods and gourmet meals, depending on the destination. We always try to vary the diet so that our participants can learn about and enjoy the local cuisine. When meals are not included, we make sure that there are a number of restaurants in the immediate area of our accommodation to give our travelers the chance to enjoy searching out local restaurant experiences.

Who do I eat meals with?

You'll never dine alone. Our guides always offer the option for you and the group to join them for meals.

Most of the women who travel with us book as a single person. If you are travelling with a friend, you can of course share a room with them. It is part of our mission to provide women the opportunity to meet new friends while enjoying a wonderful travel experience.

What is the Guaranteed Share Rate?

Most women who travel with us come individually. Some want a single room, and some prefer to share a twin room. On many tours we offer a 'Guaranteed Share Rate' which means two singles will share a twin bedded room. In the case where there are not enough to share a twin room, we pay the single supplement difference for you. This Guaranteed Share Rate allows you to book with us knowing that you will be assured the lower shared twin cost.

How many people are in the group?

This depends on the tour you select. Our groups are always small, however, from 6 to 14 participants.

What is the average age of your travellers?

Who are the guides?

Our tours are escorted by a Today's Woman Traveller staff member. Our team of ladies are all experienced tour escorts. They are well educated, speak the local language and make great traveling companions. We frequently hire local guides for specific touring or in particularly exotic locations where our escort may not speak the local language.

Our passengers are a very diverse range of women. They include single women, married women, divorcees and widows. They are women of all ages, and are often repeat customers. Our passengers come from across the country, from the USA, and some from other countries as well.

8. Prices, Surcharges and Taxes

The price of the tours published may go up or down from the time of publication. The Company recommends that the Client finds out the most up to date price of their tours including the costs of any other service provided by the Company at the time of making their booking. The Company reserves the right to increase tour price after the holiday has been booked but will not do so any later than 30 days before the departure date stipulated. After a Confirmation Invoice has been issued any increase to the tour price will be as the result of changes in an increase in transportation costs, including the cost of fuel, dues, taxes or fees chargeable for services such as landing taxes or embarkation or disembarkation fees at ports and airport charges, including any currency fluctuations. If the increase would be 2% or less of the holiday price the Company will absorb the changes in its costs of providing the tour. However if the increase is more than 2% the Company will pass this increase on to the Client.

Where the increase in price is more than 7% of the Clients holiday price then in these circumstances the Clients may either:

11. Changes

Changes made by the Company: While the Company will endeavor to operate all tours as advertised, reasonable changes in the itinerary may be made where deemed necessary or advisable by the Company. If the Company makes a major change the Company will inform the Client as soon as reasonably possible if there is sufficient time before departure. The definition of a major change is deemed to be a change affecting at least one in three full tour days of the itinerary. If the major change is due to force majeure or unforeseen circumstances no compensation is payable. Some changes to the itinerary may happen on tour as a result of unforeseen circumstances or local situations. Any changes made to alter the itinerary as a result will be made with full authority of the Tour Leader and any direct or indirect cost incurred as a result will be the responsibility of the Client. Standards of hygiene, accommodation and transport in some countries where excursions take place are often lower than comparable standards than what the Client may reasonably expect at home. The Company will at all times endeavor to appoint reputable and competent local suppliers. The terms and conditions of the suppliers will be applicable and are expressly incorporated into the Contract. These may limit or exclude liability of the supplier. The liability of the Company will not exceed that of any supplier. Local laws and regulations of the relevant country will be relevant in assessing performance of the services of any supplier. The Company's liability will not at any time exceed that of the carrier under its Conditions of Carriage and/or applicable or incorporated conventions or other legislation.
